Terms of Use

Last updated: 20 February 2026

1. About Lighthouse

Lighthouse is a media monitoring platform operated by Blue Communications Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in England and Wales. These terms govern your use of the platform at lighthouse.blue-comms.com and any associated services. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms.

2. Eligibility and accounts

Access to Lighthouse is by invitation only. Accounts are created by an administrator on behalf of authorised users within client organisations or our own team. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.

You must not share your account credentials with any other person, attempt to access another user's account, or create multiple accounts for the same individual.

3. Permitted use

Lighthouse is provided for the purpose of monitoring publicly available media coverage in the maritime, energy, and related sectors. You may use the platform to search, filter, and analyse collected articles; create and manage keyword alerts; generate reports and export data for legitimate business purposes; and collaborate with colleagues within your organisation who also hold accounts.

You must not use the platform to systematically redistribute or republish collected articles in a manner that infringes the copyright of the original publishers. Articles displayed in Lighthouse are summaries and links to publicly available content; the full text remains the intellectual property of the original publisher.

4. Prohibited conduct

You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the platform, its underlying systems, or other users' data. You must not use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to extract data from the platform beyond its intended interface. You must not interfere with or disrupt the platform's operation, introduce malicious code, or attempt to reverse-engineer the software. You must not use the platform for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these terms.

5. Intellectual property

The Lighthouse platform, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of Blue Communications Ltd. Media articles collected by the platform are sourced from publicly available RSS feeds and news APIs. The copyright in those articles belongs to their respective publishers. Lighthouse displays article titles, summaries, and links for the purpose of media monitoring, which constitutes fair dealing for the purpose of reporting current events under Section 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

You retain ownership of any content you create within the platform, such as alert rule configurations, saved searches, and watchlist names.

6. Data and privacy

Your use of Lighthouse is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the Privacy Policy.

7. Service availability

We aim to keep Lighthouse available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The platform may be temporarily unavailable due to scheduled maintenance, system updates, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We will endeavour to provide advance notice of planned downtime where practicable.

Article collection depends on the availability of third-party data sources (RSS feeds, GDELT, Google News, Mediastack, Webz.io). We cannot guarantee the completeness or timeliness of coverage data where these sources experience outages or changes to their services.

8. Limitation of liability

Lighthouse is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to loss of business, revenue, or data. Our total aggregate liability in respect of any claims arising from your use of Lighthouse shall not exceed the fees (if any) paid by you or your organisation for access to the platform in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Lighthouse at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms or if your access is no longer authorised by your organisation. Upon termination, your right to use the platform ceases immediately. Provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the platform. Your continued use of Lighthouse after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Contact

If you have any questions about these terms, please contact Blue Communications Ltd at hello@blue-comms.com.
